Clover and Snoopy (b. circa April/May 2012[1]) are the Chandlers' beagles. Chris and Barb bought them at a puppy mill in Fredricksburg on 13 May 2012. The idea of hoarding dogs was originally Barb's idea, and Chris eventually acquiesced. The CWC community learned of their existence on 1 August 2012, when a link to an entry of them Chris submitted to a local contest was posted on the CWCki Forums. The contest ended on August 12, and Chris didn't win.

According to one of Chris's Facebook posts, the dogs are siblings. Clover has a white mark on her snout, and Snoopy doesn't. Additionally, they each have an animal chew toy - Clover has a duck, Snoopy a skunk. Snoopy has a green collar, and Clover, Chris's dog, naturally has a pink collar. Barb claimed in the Rental House Tour audio that the dogs were part fox, though this is incredibly unlikely -- no authenticated hybrids between domestic dogs and foxes exist.

Snoopy, who officially belongs to Barb, is unimaginatively named after the dog from Peanuts, who was also a beagle. Even though Snoopy is her dog, Chris was listed as the person responsible for not getting proper checks and licenses for both dogs, according to legal records from 2016.

The origin of Clover's name is unclear. It was initially believed to be derived from Patti-Chan's origin story in Sonichu #6, which featured a four-leaf clover by way of explanation. When Chris first introduced the dogs on Facebook, he posted the cryptic comment, "'Shine, little Clover, Glimmer, Glimmer.' :D." This would imply that Clover's name actually came from Chris mishearing the lyrics to Johnny Mercer's song "The Glow-Worm" (which he probably heard from Bob's collection). The actual lyrics are: "Shine, little glow-worm, glimmer, glimmer." However, to confuse the story even more, during his date with Catherine, Chris claimed that Clover was named after the character from the show My Little Pony Tales.

Poor Living Conditions and Neglect

On 6 August 2013, Chris posted on Facebook a picture of dog urine on a newspaper. It's assumed that since they're still using paper, the dogs are not going outside, and most likely not getting exercise. This has angered many pet owners.

I have a strong feeling those dogs are obese, covered in fleas, and just sit around on a blanket all day and probably only get pet when Christian happens to look away from his vidya as they walk past him and he remembers "oh yeah, I have dogs" and gives them a quick pat on the rump. And I know for a fact they don't get bathed because the Chandlers can't even be fucked to bathe themselves, let alone their pets. And I'm also willing to bet they get fed the cheapest food the chandlers can buy.
A certain user from the CWCki Forums.

Sure enough, in December 2014, a statement released by Catherine (who was invited to the Chandler's Rental House by Chris himself) confirmed that the dogs are not house-trained, are aggressive towards strangers, and, possibly due to a lack of exercise, are severely obese. This was especially apparent in a series of photos released in November 2015. In the Rental House Tour, Barb can be heard attempting to justify her gross neglect of her animals by whining about how she's too old to perform laborious tasks such as opening a door to let the dogs out to relieve themselves. Even if this wasn't a bad excuse for neglect, Chris is perfectly capable of letting them out and walking them, but of course he doesn't.

Catherine also stated that the dogs are so terribly taken care of that they can't even be left at home by themselves without destroying all the furniture. Puppies often chew on things around the house, since they have lots of energy and get bored quickly, and chewing helps them teethe. However, even a subpar dog owner will enforce enough discipline to let the puppy know that they shouldn't do it. Puppies thrive on rules and order, and this, combined with the dog maturing out of childhood, means that the furniture destruction is an ephemeral affair. Chris's dogs, however, are adults, and the fact that they engage in this behaviour suggests that neither Chris nor Barb made any attempt whatsoever to rear them correctly.

When faced with a situation where he wanted to go on a date, but Barb was not home to watch the dogs, Chris's solution was to take the dogs with him, then leave them in the car. Catherine managed to dissuade him from this act of animal abuse.[2]

Chris also mentioned to Catherine that he has fed the dogs chicken noodle soup[3], which can cause sodium ion poisoning if fed from canned soup with high sodium amounts[4]. An insider source confirmed that to be the case[5].

Chris has demonstrated a similar lax attitude towards his cats, but cats are far more independent from dogs, and don't require much attention or discipline to be happy. Treating dogs like this, however, is an instance of severe neglect, and indeed Catherine seriously considered telling the authorities about the dogs' situation (and later regretted not having done it).

Chris has never once said that he is happy to have the dogs, referring to them on Facebook only as a burden of responsibility. On 29 November 2013, he said that he doesn't love them.[6] In the Rental House Tour, Chris is constantly cooing and babbling over them (while they bay deafeningly at Catherine), but this may have just been to impress Catherine, who claimed to love dogs.

The Chandlers' minivan has a bumper sticker which states "I Sleep With Dogs." The ASPCA haven't been notified.

In August 2016, Chris was hit with two (more) misdemeanors on his record, as a result of failing to acquire proper licenses and rabies checks for the dogs, further cementing his reputation as an incompetent pet owner. This marks the first time the authorities have gotten involved because of Chris's neglect of his pets.

Stealing a Neighbor's Dog

According to Emily, Chris and Barb once stole a neighbor's dog. They eventually gave it back when its owner showed up at their door.[7]

I don't think I have emails regarding that, but if anyone needs the rundown...a neighbor's dog slipped out of their collar while tied up outside and went wandering around the neighborhood. I'm assuming it was more Barb's idea, but she decided she wanted to keep it so instead of doing the right thing and asking around first. They bought it a collar and a couple of other supplies. Lo and behold, the neighbor goes looking for their dog and winds up at the Chandler's. From what I remember, they put up a fight to keep the dog and blamed the neighbor for being irresponsible. Basically, finders keepers. Neighbor still got their dog back. But Chris couldn't comprehend why it was wrong for them to try and keep the dog. I wonder if this is (part) of the reason they keep their own dogs locked up inside, a fear of repercussion from trying to steal someone else's dog.
