It seems that Chris is unable to tell the difference between a parody and a remake. Often times, those two laws don't reconcile, but as much as he's coddled, he's rarely put into a position to reconcile them. I've noticed the longest pauses in these calls happen when Alec corners him into basically admitting he's being an unfair shithead (e.g. why is it okay for you to parody other people, but it's not okay for you to be parodied?). I think his brain is fervently looking for an answer that not only justifies his actions but doesn't make him look like the bad guy or less than perfect. But there is no answer like that in some of these questions, so he just sits there, searching for something that doesn't exist and unable to respond until he finds it.
