I'm using this space to just kind of dick around and muse about shit. I'm interested in other people's opinions about it, but I'm not... y'know... I don't know if anything's going to come of it. Just saying.

Chris's utter lack of insight into his autism

I'm working on a theory that Chris believes--totally incorrectly, of course--that autism is just having difficulty speaking, not having any friends, or being anxious about socializing in general. Which he obviously has and which is a legitimate part of autism, but I've noticed he never really says anything anywhere near, "I have a funny voice because I'm autistic," like, for example, I've heard Temple Grandin say. She knows she has one and she knows it affects her interactions with people and I'm assuming she knows she might be able to change it if she put a prohibitive amount of effort into it and just doesn't care. Chris, on the other hand, thinks he sings like Bing Crosby.

I don't know if this is anything. This is a theory I've been developing for a while and to organize my thoughts on it a little and maybe something CWCki-relevant might come from it. I'd appreciate any input.

Examples of when he refers to autism exclusively as having difficulty speaking, not having any friends, or being anxious about socializing in general

  • Da mute button
    • Actually a sign of autism, sure, but a lot of people have a lot of speech difficulties. Not all mutism is autism and not all autism is mutism.
  • Da autistic shell
    • Some people with autism talk too motherfucking much, which, frankly, Chris does a lot, too. Those few times he "breaks out of his autistic shell," he tends to make people really uncomfortable because of his bizarre, autistic behavior which he defends endlessly. Whether he's talking too much or too little, he's still being autistic as fuck, so the "shell" is neither here nor there as far as being autistic is concerned. I'd argue that his autistic shell is more a shell of anxiety.
  • "A-U-T-I-S-M: what does it mean? Silence and friends unseen!"
  • "And y'all are becoming autistic-like! Stuck within your computers!"

Examples of when he refers to any of his other obvious, characteristic symptoms of autism which actually have any impact on his life and which displaying any insight into or willingness to change or improve instead of just getting pissy and trying to change the subject when they're brought up would make socializing infinitely easier

Stuff Chris could do to make relating to people easier

1. Realize he's already hit rock fucking bottom.

He's gone out in public wearing women's underwear advertising his desire for women. He's got hundreds if not thousands of turowulls posting nudes all over the Internet. Short of raping children, there's pretty much nothing Chris could do to humiliate himself any more than he already has. He's got to understand that nothing he does can hurt him any more. There's only one way to go from here. (If you're reading this, Chris, no, that doesn't mean you should start raping children.)

2. Realize that the world is not his fucking mother.

His mom likes him because she shat him out. The world doesn't like him because it expects something from him which he refuses to give it.

3. Understand that other people succeed where he fails by doing things differently than he does.

A definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. He basically needs to fucking lurk moar. Well... except he fucking does lurk in the original meaning of the word. He just needs to listen critically to other people who've actually succeeded, because...

4. Know that his instincts are wrong.

That's what autism is, bro. It's not not talking when you want to. That's anxiety and selective mutism. Doesn't mean you have to do the exact opposite of everything you want to do, but being autistic means your social impulses are all fucked up. Most people don't even have to think about it. Most people can just up and walk in a straight line, too, but MS. Them's the breaks.

5. Accept that he's not special.

Something like 1% of the population has autism. There's something like 15,000 people in Greene County. Therefore, something like 150 people in Greene County have autism. Because of 3 and 4, he's just as capable if not more so of being a fucking creepy, spiteful, self-centered, mean-spirited person as anyone else. He's not fighting against Team Rocket or Dr. Robotnik. He's fighting against success and social expectation.
