Transcripts

You've certainly been doing a lot of work around CWCki, and you should keep it up. Might I ask, though, that you stop changing italicized words in transcripts to bold words? At least in my opinion, that's really distracting. Remember: these are transcripts of video blogs, not word balloons in some manga. Unless Chris is seriously shouting some word, it should only be italicized. Anyway, that's my style rant for today. Carry on, my wayward son! Llort 19:08, 3 September 2009 (CEST)

Hey Sonijew!!!

Good work at clearing up the wiki, but please don't remove the bold dates in the image-descriptions. I'm a high-functioning autistic, and if I see unbold dates in image-descriptions I go FUCKING MAD and then I cry myself to sleep. :3 Oh yeah but anyway, have an iron cross or whatever, I forgot I even maed that... RachmaninovDESU 18:53, 13 September 2009 (CEST)

Well, evereyone's a high-functioning autistic here! Thanks for an Iron Cross, Hauptmann Stransky will be sooo jealous. --Sonijew 17:48, 18 September 2009 (CEST)

Moving pages

just so you know, the proper way to move a page is to ask someone who can move it(sysop, jerkop) to do so. deleting the content of a page and moving it to a new one works, but you lose the edit history --cogsdev/vedsgoc 16:51, 30 September 2009 (CEST)

I will! Thank you Father! --Sonijew 18:02, 30 September 2009 (CEST)
Technically, that would be mother, but that doesn't work the same...lol --Whoreos n' Milf 06:51, 7 October 2009 (CEST)

Captain's Logs

Please don't re-assign the templates for these videos. It's going to be a long process to sort them all out, and I'd rather have them all done at once - after they've all been renamed - so as to make sure that they're all handled properly. Llort 23:35, 6 November 2009 (CET)

Thank you

Thank you for always fixing my crappy grammar and bizarre capitalization. It is much appreciated. --Beat 06:54, 18 November 2009 (CET)

Re: Wrong Info

Well, adding "I do not care" as a CWC-ism (whether "major" or "minor") would have been one example of incorrect information that you've added to CWCki, except that I intercepted it over at that other talk page before it had a chance to make its way into the article proper...
In any case, I suppose what I really meant to say was not so much that you routinely add wrong information as that you routinely edit in the wrong ways: you've blanked pages instead of asking for them to be moved; you've taken transcripts that I've formatted correctly in the past and "corrected" their formatting to be wrong; you routinely make multiple small edits to a single page instead of making all of your changes in just one or two larger edits (which makes browsing edit histories a pain in the ass); and lastly, there was the time when you linked to your own userpage within a transcript in a covert act of namefaggotry... which - even worse - led to the banning of an innocent new CWCki editor.
Don't get me wrong: despite all of the above, I don't think that you're trying to mess anything up. But at this point, I've seen you mess so many things up in spite of your good intentions that I suspect you require this reply as a wake-up call. Llort 07:47, 3 December 2009 (CET)

  • I'm not taking sides here but let me say something on behalf of Sonijew. First off, I do the multiple edits instead of one big edit. Yes, it's very piss poor editing but sometimes I might add something and be like "Shit, some fucker wrote it as 'Chris" and edit that and then I might see some spelling mistake on my part or someone else's part and then fix that, so on and so forth. It's a nasty habit that I do need to work on, and I'm sure the same goes for Sonijew. Also, editing in wrong ways is definitely not the same thing as adding wrong information. One is just sucking at wiki editing, the other is because you're a dumbass or a faggot.
Okay, let's look at Sonijew's wrongdoings then. First, the move thing - I believe he's done this only once, and there's no documentation explaining you need to ask an admin or jerkop to move stuff so this is a mistake anyone can make. Solution - clearly present this, perhaps add this to A Quick Guide to CWCki. Second, could you elaborate on the transcript thing? I understand your frustration however as there's about a dozen different transcript formats on CWCKi (though they're slowly becoming standardized) but perhaps the solution here is to create a style guide for transcripts so we have one, uniform way of presenting transcripts and there won't be any confusion on the "right" way to transcribe.
The namefaggotry thing is a serious offense. However, in fairness, the user who got banned wasn't banned because of Sonijew's wrongdoing but because he overreacted by a degree of over 9000 to a misunderstanding. Instead of just going "I'm sorry, you're mistaken" or (as someone said to me when I made a similar mistake) "I didn't do it, the history page is your friend," he went on some long rant and flipped out on Cogs which is never a good idea. I would have less of a problem with this if Chris actually said "Jew" in the video. But he was saying "you" and he sometimes says it like "jew" but Sonijew felt like changing the transcript so it read "Jew" which would alter the video's true meaning.
Llort, I do understand your frustration but I think that instead of us bashing Sonijew for being a poor editor, we can instead use this as an opportunity to clarify the CWCki way of doing things so that users such as Sonijew and others who might not be totally familiar with CWCki style and such have a clear, defined guide on how to do things. Instead of bashing Sonijew for moving pages the half ass way, let's instead try and clarify how to move pages the right way instead. --Champthom 09:07, 3 December 2009 (CET)

No,it was written as "Jew" by someone else already. If I knew about a Jew in Pickle Suit I'd back then link there. --Sonijew 12:55, 3 December 2009 (CET)

And I don't even know what namefaggotry is, this explains nothing and so does Urban Dictionary. --Sonijew 12:59, 3 December 2009 (CET)

  • See CWCki:NAMEFAG. Unless you're directly related to the article (like I am in Crass and Champ), don't add yourself to an article (and I only added myself to the article to provide clarification that I, along with Crass, were the basis of these two characters). The only exception is if it's really damn funny, relevant, etc. For example, I've linked to Anonymous's user page because I was using an anonymous quote.
The reason we have this is because in the early days of the CWCki, people would add themselves to articles as a way of increasing their e-peen (with articles like "SkeeterDude69 is an epic troll. He once called Chris and yelled "JULLAAAAAAAAAAAAY" at the top of his lungs") and and for some people, their pinnacle of existence seems to rely on being mentioned in the CWCki. So we have the namefag and notability rule so we don't have hundreds of articles about people desperately trying to troll Chris but failing.
It's a slipper slope. Best not to venture to the edge of the slope to slip down it, hence the namefaggotry rule. However, the day Chris says "Jew" and he is referring to the religion, I give you permission to link to your user page in that event. --Champthom 21:02, 3 December 2009 (CET)
Having edited a great many transcripts during my time with CWCki, I've considered writing up a transcript style guide before, looking ahead to a day when I'm dead and gone (as far as CWCki is concerned) and others must pick up where I've left off. Thus far, I haven't bothered actually writing such a thing, in part because it would take quite a while to concoct and in part because chances are good that - after all of that work - no one would actually use it (or else, no one would actually follow it correctly despite trying to use it). For now, I can at least agree that most errors on the part of newer editors reflect more the failings of CWCki guidance than the editors themselves. Llort 16:50, 3 December 2009 (CET)
  • Yeah, it's definitely about guidance than the editors themselves. We're not exactly Wikipedia in which we can have people write hundreds of pages about style and meta topics on the CWCki and then enforce them. But really, with a style guide, just start out with like a rough outline sort of deal, people might see what you're getting at, then others can refine your work. It's alright if it's just a stub at first, just something to get it out there. Or you could start writing a draft on a subpage of your user page like some people prefer to do and then when it's in a good enough state, make a new, regular page for it. --Champthom 21:02, 3 December 2009 (CET)
  • As far as the multiple edit thing: Is it really that hard, if you're editing a section, to just read the rest of it and make sure there's no typos? I'm guessing you're either 1. hunting for them or 2. reading the article anyway, so either way it wouldn't really be going out of your way. Also, the preview button is your friend. --sonichuis44 20:51, 5 December 2009 (CET)
