To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing this letter to report an egregious instance of welfare fraud. I am accusing a man named Christian Weston Chandler living at the address of 14 Branchland Ct. Ruckersville, VA 22968 of said crime. His blatant exploitation of public funds is disgusting and should not be tolerated. Mr. Chandler collects welfare from either the SSI or the SSDI program. Under both programs, a person determined to be disabled is eligible for welfare. The definition of "disabled" for these programs is that the potential recipient must be incapable of participating in "substantial gainful activity". This is a value set based on the cost of living for a particular year. For reference, in 2008, that value was $980.
Mr. Chandler is not physically incapable of working. In fact in the past he has worked several jobs, including: Wendy’s Restaurant (August, 2001 – October, 2001 Custodian) in Ruckersville, VA and Cutco Cutlery (June, 2003 – September, 2003 Salesman) in Charlottesville, VA. While his employment didn't last long due to “personal reasons,” he is very capable of doing at least the minimum level of work required to hold down a manual labor job. It is his unwillingness to work that prevents him from being employed.
Mr. Chandler claims autism is what keeps him from working; this is absolute nonsense. He managed to successfully graduate from high school, and later earned an Associates Degree in Computer Aided Drafting and Design from Piedmont Virginia Community College, Charlottesville, Virginia (completed on 6/1/2006). He also successfully obtained a driver's license. Mr. Chandler has admitted several times that he is capable of working a full time job consisting of manual labor. However, he shows no desire to, as he is more than content with stealing money belonging to hard-working American citizens. He even jokingly refers to his welfare check as his “tugboat,” as it drags him along without having to use his own energy or power.
Upon further inquiries about his welfare, Mr. Chandler informed several people that his father, Robert Chandler, "pulled some strings" in order for him to start receiving payments. I strongly suggest the proper authorities look into this matter, especially as Mr. Chandler’s spending of the money seems to be mostly for self-gratification. This includes large amounts spent on entertainment and materials of a sexual nature.
I implore you to please investigate this matter further. I feel that, as a taxpayer, my money is not being well spent. In these hard economic times especially, we cannot allow individuals like this to persist as parasites leeching off hard-working Americans while making a mockery of both our government and the truly disabled. I know I am not alone in my disgust in this matter. I am sure you may receive many letters similar to this one from other concerned taxpayers and American citizens. I urge you to hear the voice of the people, as ignoring it may reflect poorly on you and your office.
Sincerely,
