From: Margaret Mead (margaretmead@fordham.edu) Hello! I've been reading and following Sonichu with great interest for several years. I am a cultural anthropologist and college professor. My field of study focuses on American culture, society and values, those sort of things. If you could please take the time to answer a few of my questions I and my future students would be most appreciative. My questions all concern Sonichu and Rosechu, their family, and their living situation: 1. Are Sonichu and Rosechu living in poverty? They seem to occupy a rather small house for a family of five, and that house is provided by the CWCville government. I understand Sonichu is paid for guarding the city, but you also said he has to mow lawns to make ends meet. Yet in your Christmas special, they seem to be living beyond their means, buying the latest video games for very young children who wouldn't really appreciate such things. What is the Sonichus' approximate income? 2. What are Sonichu and Rosechu's educational backgrounds? You show most of the other Sonichus and Rosechus attending University courses (or high school, as the case may be), but Sonichu and Rosechu seem to have rushed into marriage shortly after they met each other. Most couples -- even ones in stable, long-term relationships -- would delay marriage until after college graduation. Did Sonichu and Rosechu finish (or even attend) high school? Do they have college degrees, or any college education under their belts? If the checks for saving the city stop coming in after Slaweel Ryam is defeated, how will Sonichu and Rosechu provide for their three children? 3. Did Rosechu plan her pregnancies, or were the three children "accidents"? Many women choose to delay pregnancy until their late 20s or early 30s, when one is usually finished with college and has started a professional career. It's much easier to start a family when one is more established in life. It's also unusual for people in their late teens or very early 20s to have three children, and women in such situations have very stressful and financially precarious lives. Rosechu appears to have hired a nanny to remedy this. Does Rosechu receive checks from the government to pay for such a service as well? If you had the ability to travel through time... to any place and time you desire... what would you do? 2. If you worked with a beautiful and sexy woman, but your work ethics forbid you to have any kinds of romantic relations with her... do you think you could stand this challenge? 3. I deeply enjoy your comic, and especially the portrayal of Cwcville as a utopia. Every man should have a place to call his own, don't you agree? First off, though, may I say how inspiring it is that you manage to make a high-quality page nearly every day. It must be incredibly taxing on you, but you seem to be coping admirably. Now, as to the questions. 1. You say that there is a 'gay gene' that can be cured. How exactly does this cure work, and which chromosome is said gay gene attached to? 2. As you have said in a previous mail post, you understand the basics of how evolution works. I'm not expecting you to discuss it at doctorate level of course, but as you know, a gene that is not used or is recessive does not transfer to the next generation. How then is the gay gene transmitted? Obviously every gay man or woman has two heterosexual parents, therefore the gay gene is not represented in either of them. 3. You say you hate the gay lifestyle. While this is understandable if it is indeed a choice that is consciously made by the individual, it is rather disturbing if you claim to hate someone based on something in their genetic makeup. How is that different than hating someone based on their genetic skin color or mental defects, Autism or Aspergers, for example? 4. If the gay gene exists and can be cured, would it also be possible to cure, say, left-handedness? Just as a rhetorical question, you understand. But on that topic, what other genetic defects would you cure if you had a serum? Perhaps we could compare notes sometime. Finally, and this one I am deeply curious about, why precisely is the homosexual lifestyle wrong, in your opinion? Originally you quoted the bible as your justification, but recently you have said that the bible is more of a guideline, so we should be free to ignore it when we want. The incidence of violent crimes and sexually transmitted diseases are lower amongst the homosexual population, and many homosexual people have created great things as a result of finding their one true other in the same gender, such as Hirokazu Yasuhara, the creator of Sonic the Hedgehog, and Satoshi Tajiri, the creator of Pokémon, and by extension, Pikachu; so what is so terribly wrong about the homosexual lifestyle? This is not an accusation, merely an honest inquiry. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and I know this is asking rather much from you, so I apologize in advance, but would you please elaborate on each of these questions with at least one full sentence? Number two should be rewritten; recessive genes definitely can be passed to the next generation, it just takes a copy from each parent for them to be expressed. Unless you just wanted Christ to show off his stupidity, in which case, carry on.
