Template documentation (for the template shown above, sometimes hidden or invisible)

Purpose

This template is used to create advanced footnote formatting. Because of MediaWiki limitations, some standard markup elements often used in article prose do not work within <ref> tags, including "nested" references. See Template:Refn on Wikipedia for a more in-depth explanation of the template and how to use it.
