Your ban
Clyde expressed concerns to me the other night about your edits to the Picture of the Now, mostly that you were inserting a picture you yourself did. I argued that there wasn't necessarily anything inherently wrong with this, given that your picture did reflect "the Now" (the death of Simonla). While I'm not a big fan of the quality of the drawing, it did reflect the Now. I would argue it's not entirely kosher to add your own work to any of the "the Now" templates. I think you were going over the line in changing the video of the now to one of your videos (or at least the username of this YouTube is similar to your username here, not to mention this has already been featured as a video of the now before).
While there's nothing inherently wrong with uploading an illustration that illustrates "the now," I think it's wise not to feature it yourself. It's not totally against the rules, but it's not very kosher. If it's good, someone else can feature it, or if you're really desperate, ask an admin or Jerkop or someone like that and we'd probably feature it if it's any good. See here for a policy of why we look down on that sort of thing.
For everyone else, this is a pretty tame form of namefaggotry, though probably with good faith in mind, though it may have been to try and promote himself and not so much going on an ego trip and wasn't quite as persistent as Spaskid and his crew were in regards to the namefagging of the Sonichu: The Animated Series article. The fact that there wasn't even any sort of signature on the picture which would have cemented a case for namefagging but it seems he just uploaded it because he thought it captured the Now. I had someone suggest we lock the Picture of the Now but given that this is mostly because it seems he had good intentions and an isolated incident at that, not to mention I don't always feel like wading through Krapple or PVCC or the recent uploads on CWCki to find new stuff to feature, I'd rather outsource it to other people. Personally, I think we might need a better definition of what namefaggotry is and work on people using the fan index as a way of promoting themselves instead of the main namespace.
Griffintown was too brash in permabanning the guy, considering this is pretty tame compared to other things people have done to be banned. I think permabanning is only warranted in cases like constant vandalism, persistent namefagging, someone who thinks it's funny to insert false information, etc. But a case like this, really, it's just someone who could prove to be a decent contributor to CWCki, perhaps a decent member for the Artist Commune, and should be given the chance to learn the error of his ways.
But mark my words, Dkd, you pull this shit again and you will be permanently banned. --Champthom 22:01, 9 March 2010 (UTC)
