Okay, so what is up with the Jackie thing? Did she dump him? Is she a troll? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Popanator (talkcontribs)

Questions of this nature are best asked on Offshore CWCki or IRC. If you read the Jackie chatlogs you'll learn quite a bit. --Anonymax 21:26, 22 November 2010 (PST)

Suggest removal of current events link

There have been no current events for like 11 months. do we still need the link in the main menu? .-~ Slimz ~-. 12:03, 3 January 2012 (PST)

  • ok this current events link is still here and needs to be removed (from the main menu) because there are no current events, otherwise we need some current events. Yeah dawg i like current events so put some current events in my current events so i can be informed while i'm getting informed .-~ Slimz ~-. 10:32, 27 January 2012 (PST)
  • Supporting this. This page seems completely pointless anyway. It's like a news page, except all the news is old and shorter than most of the Da Update stuff. --Old meme 12:23, 27 January 2012 (PST)
  • ok since my revision was reverted, what is the solution to this issue?.-~ Slimz ~-. 12:34, 7 February 2012 (PST)
For reference, adding false entries that don't refer to current events is not the solution. Edits like that are counter-productive as hell and just make you seem more like a troll than a genuine editor. --Anonymax 12:37, 7 February 2012 (PST)
  • ok this page is old, unused, out of date, deprecated and obsolete. It has been made obsolete by Da Update and has not been updated in over a year. It is linked from a main navigation spot. Its continued existence makes the entire wiki look bad. Please either remove it or at least make Current Events in the main navigation link to Da Update.Sorry If my concern about the inaccuracy and aging nature of this page are a bother, but i cant make this change myself.
  • "Da update" has and always been for Chris related updates. The current event page has been for CWCki related updates. I generally have only added stuff to it when something major happens like the launching of a new project or trying to make a significant site change that requires user input (like getting rid of the Fan Works). Given that these sort of things don't happen that much, it's not updated much. I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing, we only really need to make huge changes when they're needed.
I'm not singling you out, but I think some people think we need to constantly update stuff, like it somehow looks bad if we're not constantly updating. I see this especially with Da Update, where people will add really trivial stuff to Da Update just so it's more up to date. People are going to keep coming back here, we're the most reliable source of Chris information out there and people are going to keep coming back no matter what. Similar issue here - just because it's not updated constantly doesn't mean we should get rid of the current events. People are going to check it to see what's new with the CWCki and if there's nothing new going on, so be it. I suppose we could start adding trivial shit like policy changes and all that but I think that's just sorta silly.
I also looked at how Wikipedia handles their "Current events" page and it looks like it's current events in general, not Wikipedia related. We could treat it like that, except it'd be stickier given current trends, as we might be doing pages on a quarterly instead of monthly basis like we used to.
In any case though, Cogs would have to remove the link, I have no way to change that, at least that I know of. And for the love of God Slimz, sign your fucking posts, you've been warned multiple times, if it happens again you'll get a banning. --Champthom 09:03, 8 February 2012 (PST)
It doesn't require Cogs (I know how to do it), but I don't feel it needs to be removed at this time. --Anonymax 09:30, 8 February 2012 (PST)
Sorry, im hella forgetful about signing posts.. anyway if its not to be removed, it would be noce for it to be at least current in some fashion. Monthly updates are not needed but its been a year. It makes the wiki look like we are not doing anything. I understand the lull in activity on the part of Chris but thats no reason for us to get complacent. In the spirit of "bring me solutions not problems" i would suggest that it be used to post happenings with the wiki. Like recently the images have been getting optimized to PNG, thats something. .-~ Slimz ~-. 10:06, 8 February 2012 (PST) .-~ Slimz ~-. 10:06, 8 February 2012 (PST)
  • this page still links to the main menu and has not been updated in a year. thats not current. recent events including chris's return to semi active social networking, and the lemonaid stand could be included. but it seems that the idea of actually updating a section called CURRENT events is not acceptable. that being said, im still all for removing this link all together because there is nothing here that the timeline does not cover slimz - ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐ 11:20, 2 July 2012 (PDT)
  • Wiki events, not Chris events. Axe 04:44, 10 July 2012 (PDT)
  • Like I said, Wikipedia treats "current events" as current events in the world, not the wiki in general. The problem is that we'd have to change the redirect every month (or quarter) to the current month page, otherwise I'd have a redundant page if we left this here.--Champthom 05:29, 10 July 2012 (PDT)
  • An overhaul isn't necessary. You can edit MediaWiki:Sidebar to either remove the current events line or change "currentevents-url" to "Template:Da update" (or just redirect the CWCki:Current events page itself). Axe 06:27, 10 July 2012 (PDT)
For what it's worth, even if you decide against removing the Current Events line, having a quick sidebar link to Da Update might come in handy for people who enter the site from somewhere other than the front page (e.g. after getting linked to the Duck page through an external site). That way, they wouldn't have to navigate to the front page first in order to see what's new. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Freecell (talkcontribs) 23:24, 10 July 2012 (PDT)
