Doctor McGovern is a family physician with a practice in Charlottesville, VA. He served as Chris's physician for a number of years. A comment from Chris suggests that McGovern may also have been Barbara's physician as well.[1] As of 2023, when Chris relocated to Big Island, VA, it is unclear whether he is still McGovern's patient.

Chris has made several references to McGovern when chatting with others and also included him within Sonichu.

References by Chris

Chris has made direct and indirect references to McGovern, either by name (usually when speaking among trusted individuals such as Kacey or members of The Place) or by referring to him as his physician (when addressing the public).

In August 2009, during Kacey Call 6, Chris pretended to undergo a case of spirit possession with his younger self. In response to Kacey claiming it a possible mental problem that a doctor would be concerned about, Chris claimed he would make an appointment with McGovern to talk about it. Chris also noted that he saw McGovern every 3-4 months and that he had been the one to advise Chris to take the cholesterol medication Lipitor.

The following day, in Kacey Call 7, Kacey suggested Chris go to a gym and claimed a doctor might be able to get a discount for him. Chris claimed he would speak to McGovern about it.

In Kacey Call 11 from 7 September 2009, Chris said he had written a list of five questions to ask McGovern. He had tried to deliver it that day but didn't realize the office was closed on Labor Day. He listed the questions as being about 1) the gym discount, 2) whether he should resume taking Paroxetine, 3) the Lipitor medication, 4) whether or not it was normal for his penis to be bent and whether it could be straightened out, and 5) a request for penis extension medication.

In Kacey Call 19, Chris told Kacey that he had been to McGovern for an appointment. They had talked about his heart pains and Chris was advised to reduce stress and continue Paroxetine.

In Mailbag 6 from 28 November 2009, Chris replied in response to a mail question that he sees his local physician every few months.

In a Facebook post from 14 October 2013, Chris wrote that his jaw was squeaking, believing it to be stress-induced, and from looking up symptoms online thought he had "TSJ" disorder (a misspelling of TMJ disorder). Kim Wilson asked if he had gone to a doctor, and Chris replied that he would be seeing his physician that day.[2]

In tweets from 12 September 2018, Chris wrote that "our physician" had ordered his mother Barbara to drink meal replacement shakes.[1]

On 24 June 2019, Chris mistakenly believed himself to have a heart attack and went to the ER.[3] Five days later he saw his physician for a follow-up, who diagnosed Chris's problem as gastro-related and advised taking Tums. Chris also demonstrated his psychic powers and believed the doctor was "wowed".[4]

In a chat with The Place from 29 September 2020, while simultaneously rambling about his messiah complex and other fantasy delusions, Chris claimed to be experiencing a high heart rate but that he was attempting to recover through mental control. Server member hedgehog suggested Chris ask his doctor. Chris responded favorably and scheduled an appointment for the following day.[5] After the appointment, Chris reported that his vitals were normal and that McGovern had been perplexed at Chris's explanations. McGovern suggested that Chris was experiencing stress, but Chris only partially accepted the answer.[6]

In a chat with The Place from 2 December 2020, Chris said he would have a long day from going to two doctor appointments for checkups - McGovern and an endocrinologist - and that he would consider the matter of ProjectSNT and Opuscon789 later.[7]

During summer 2021, Chris began having incestuous acts with his mother Barbara. Chris concocted a misleading cover story claiming to be in a relationship with an older woman. He shared this story with several people, including his physician, as Chris wanted to be checked for STDs.[8] He had an appointment for it on 20 July 2021.[9][10]

Chris "wow"ing Doctor McGovern with his psychic abilities in Sonichu 14

Doctor McGovern appears in one panel in Sonichu 14. The comic issue is intended by Chris to be autobiographical. In it, he described his follow-up visit from June 2019, having gone to the ER earlier in the week under the mistaken assumption of having a heart attack.[3] McGovern (who is not directly named but referred to as "my physician") called Chris's problem gastro-related and recommended taking Tums. Chris also "wowed" him with a demonstration of his psychic powers, apparently levitating a pen, and interpreted the doctor's reaction as him being another witness to Chris's powers.
