I know when Google has walking directions, the estimated time is based on an average speed of 3 mph and I've heard 3 mph being the standard speed a reasonably healthy person should be able to walk. The thing is, trying to calculate is useless because Chris takes breaks which he cuts out. But I think the point is, if Chris only ran a 1/3 of a mile, he really shouldn't need to be taking any breaks or get winded. --[[User:Champthom|Champthom]] 08:08, 4 December 2009 (CET) |

SONIC RUNNING SPEED
I'm looking at the Google Maps trail and using my SPEED ESTIMATING skills it looks like it's a about 1/3rd of a mile. According to this thing he ran at a speed of about 5 miles an hour for the parts he was actually running and taking breaks.
There's a rule of thumb (for hikers) that says you can hike a mile in about 20 minutes, which works out to about 3 miles an hour. So during the parts Chris was actually running and he moved at less than twice the speed most people run at.
I suck at math, so I'm not sure if this is accurate.

I think you're quite mistaken. People are supposed to be able to walk a mile in 15 minutes, which is to say that they walk at 4 mph. That said, years ago, I used to be able to run a mile in about 6 minutes, which isn't even very good. That's running at 10 mph. So... he's running about half as fast as I could... for one third of the distance. --Tristran 05:37, 4 December 2009 (CET)
