Trickie Comments on Sonichu 15
5 December 2017, by Trickie[1]
In a thread on the subject of Chris copying Trickie's fancomic Rosechu's Story for his Sonichu 15:
| Well, that's pretty much what I expected. It's not traced, so I guess that's something. |
Trickie's Handling of Chris's Copying of Rosechu's Story
5 July 2019, by Trickie[2]
In a thread on the subject of Chris's copying of her fancomic Rosechu's Story for his Sonichu 15, and in response to a user's comment, "I think the problem people have is that he is just copying your work (plus some extra autism) and profiting from it, instead of creating something new. He's just doing it as an easy cash grab and to get some of his patrons off his back. He probably hasn't put any thought into your work besides "mmm'yeah I can copy that as such"
Also it's only a matter of time until Chris claims that since this actually happened in c3po dimension or whatever you didn't actually create it. You merely chronicled the events first and you can't copy "history". Most people here don't want you to troll Chris. Just to stand up and say hey you're directly profiting off my work and it's not cool. If idiots are going to throw money at Chris he should at least have to scribble his own autism."
| Well, Christine has already indicated to me that she considers this to be part of the chronicled history of the electric hedgehogs, and that all this stuff was in her brain somewhere, it just didn't come out until she read it in my comic. So even if I did make a fuss about it, she probably would've done this anyway and the only difference would be that I wouldn't get credit for it at all. |
Trickie's Permission to Reference, Not Trace
17 July 2019, by Trickie[3]
| I've told Chris that I'm okay with her referencing my art, but not tracing it. It might seem like a distinction without a difference, but tracing is very different from referencing. Tracing is where you overlay an image onto a piece of paper and simply copy the lines, it takes very little effort or thought and you're less likely to improve your art skills while doing so. When you reference something, that means you're taking the time to study the shapes and forms of the original piece and then try to replicate it on paper with your own skill. This is what art students do when they're doing still life drawings for practice, they're not just looking at the objects they're trying to draw, they're studying them, noting the relationships between the individual forms, where they "connect", where the highlights and shadows are, etc.
This isn't to say that I'm under the impression that referencing my art (of all things) will help her improve hers. Optimally, you would also be learning things like stroke techniques and realistic human anatomy on top of still life drawings (not to mention techniques specific to comics, composition, the 180 rule, etc), they're ultimately supposed to help you learn to construct images in your mind's eye and transfer them to paper, but if Chris can effectively replicate my art without tracing it, then I'm fine with it. Now, I haven't gone full photoshop detective in comparing her art to mine, so I can't say for sure that nothing's traced, but nothing has really jumped out at me so far. It's kind of subtle, but when something is traced, even if the lines are sloppy, the proportions should roughly match up when you overlay one on top of the other. Again, if you can find anything in her pages that's been directly traced from my art please let me know, because I would have a problem with that. Also, suing Chris sounds like the least fun way to get doxed... |
Watching Chris Reference Rosechu's Story
23 July 2019[4]
In a thread on the subject of Sonichu 15 and a debate on whether Chris was tracing or referencing Trickie's Rosechu's Story comic:
| [posts screenshot of her post on overlaying Chris's art over her own, showing many Agree ratings]
Looks like it's pretty much unanimous that everyone here thinks the panels I posted were traced. Unfortunately, I know for a fact that they weren't traced, because Chris let me watch those pages being drawn in real time via phone. Sorry for the ruse cruise, but I wanted to make sure people couldn't turn around and say that the new pages don't look traced, but the old ones do. In reality, @Onewittyuser had to warp and distort the art to make it fit better: [posts gif comparing the images] And honestly, not tracing the pages makes more sense even from a laziness standpoint. It would take more set up and hassle to position the art on a computer screen and try to draw in a weird vertical position or print out a mirrored version of the comic for the reflecta sketch. Turns out the reason the art goes back to normal when we get away from the panels from my comic is because there's no longer a reference to follow. Boring, yes, but that's just how it is sometimes. In light of this, I hope you'll all understand if I don't waste more time than I already have on this issue. |
