Interesting stuff. The thing that strikes me about the rundown on antisocial personality disorder is that Chris seems to have all the drawbacks of the condition (lack of empathy, uncontrollable anger, inability to form lasting relationships) and none of the advantages (charisma, the knack for manipulating people, he's about as cunning as a Labrador puppy). In short, he even fails at being a sociopath. Dkaien 06:05, 29 December 2009 (CET)

  • It's a bit of a misconception that all sociopaths are intelligent. One of my friends was diagnosed with APD at some point (not like OMG BFF LOL friends, but he was in my social circle and we hung out once or twice) and he wasn't all that smart. I mean he wasn't entirely stupid, but he did get arrested for stealing beer (his plan was to walk out of the store and hope no one noticed) and pulling a knife on the manager who stopped him. While this made whatever the charges were worse, I doubt he was really charged with "armed robbery" like he kept bragging about. When he was in jail he pretended he was hard of hearing specifically to ignore what the corrections officers told him to do and tried to injure himself (slamming his hand in a door, iirc) in order to get drugs, which I don't think they'll give you in jail because it's jail. When he was out on the street he lived in a halfway house and would drink despite the rules against that and got really good at hiding it. He'd fuck with other residents for no real reason by putting condoms in the milk in the fridge.

He's start really stupid arguments and then get mad when you outsmarted him. Examples include: he was convinced Metallica was a Christian Rock band, and they should put high explosives instead of gunpowder in bullets so they'd shoot faster. He'd get mad and punch inanimate objects that would obviously hurt him, like brick walls and metal pipes. He carried a literal "shit list" with him at one point. He built elaborate booby traps to kill squirrels at a house my friends were renting and would skin and dismember the carcasses. They laughed off the trap building and when the first few squirrels were killed, but made him stop after he turned the side yard into some weird squirrel butcher shop. He kept trying to convince me to help him build a bomb or set up a meth lab. He built pipe bombs in high school and almost seriously hurt himself doing so, and he was just convinced that I'd be able to do it better. He slept with a girl I had a crush on and told me about it just to watch my reaction. Oh, and he was a closeted bisexual and for the longest time got really mad if you called him gay or implied he was gay, up until he got drunk and literally blew a guy in front of a bunch of other people at a party. And his attitude towards that blowjob afterwards was "I did it and so what?"

And about the shoplifting/knife incident: he was proud of that. He didn't even express regret in the sense that he felt bad for not thinking up a better plan to steal beer, or pulling a knife out and making things worse, or even getting caught. Even though he was imprisoned and then put on parole or probation and it caused a major disruption to his life, he seriously did not give a shit about it, and continued to drink and act out even when under legal supervision.
