Regency Square Mall: The only place in USA where you can buy new names from God and Bear

Christopher's name change was sparked by the incident involving one Leonard Bearstein (aka "The Bear") who played in the Bear Band at the Regency Square Shopping Mall during Christopher's childhood. When the young Christopher told Bearstein his name, Bearstein misheard and called him Christian.[1]

The young Christopher apparently interpreted this as a sign from God, and this led to his decision to change his name to Christian, which happened in late 1993.[2]Christopher's father Bob had originally wanted to name his son Christian anyway, but pussied out.[3]

During the Liquid saga, Chris frequently used his birth name to differentiate himself from the "impostor," stating that he's the only Christian Weston Chandler who was born Christopher Weston Chandler (though Liquid made no claims to the contrary).

In late August 2009 Chris briefly tried to imply that Christian and Christopher were split personalities. However, he quickly abandoned the act, and later admitted that he made the whole thing up in a mailbag response.
