Equestrian Calendar

In Sonichu 12-9, Chris stolecreated a new calendar for Equestria.

Origin

The names were copied from the names of seasons of planet Sera in Gears of War. He has also changed and added things as he (or the Idea Guy pleases. In the games, there are two more months named seasons and brume. Chris probably did not include these because sorrow sounds too sad for his hugbox and he has no idea what brume means.

The order of these has been retconned atleast once by Chris. In the comic, the order is said to be

• Storm
• Gale
• Thaw
• Rise
• Bloom
• Heat
• Harvest
• Frost
• Reap
• Bounty

But a problem arises in the third arc of the book. Chris breaks up with Jessica Quinn's self insert Diamond Melody on the 7th day of Bounty in 2017. But he met up with his new sweetheart on the 24th of Frost of 2017. This is a paradox as Night Star meets Kun after the breakup.

Chris never realised this, but fixed the calendar by mistake in a tweet in June 2018, where he stated the order again. This time around Frost occurred after Bloom thereby fixing the paradox.

Days

The speed of rotation along its axis is faster for Equestria when compared to Earth. In one year, there are (exactly) 457 days instead of the 365.25 on Earth. So there aren't any leap years in Equestria.

A large problem occurs when Chris mentions the dates of the different planets to compare. In the book, he has said that 6th January 2018 and 6th of Storm of 2018, 31 of May and 31st Bloom of 2018 and 24th of Rise and 24th of February of every year fall on the same date. This is impossible as the number of dates in the Equestrian calendar are much greater than the Gregorian calendar.

Something much more likely is that the number of days in both the calendars is the same and the 457 day calendar has been retconned.

Months

All the months are exactly the same as the months in the Gregorian calendar with the exception of Heat which is made of June, July and August. These are in the correct order, the way Chris intended it be.

Chris has only ever mentioned the 457 day year once in Sonichu 12-9, but due to other problems in the comic such as the months being completely off and paradoxes being formed, the 457 day calendar can be rejected. Due to the dates matching up perfectly every year, it can be confirmed that Equestria and Earth have the exact same time of revolution I.e leap years have to exist in Equestria.

Conversion

Due to the calendars being the exact same except for the month of Heat, conversion between them is extremely simple.

• To convert any month except Heat to the Gregorian month or vice versa, simply change the name of the month according to

  • Bounty - November
  • Frost - December
• To convert from Gregorian to Equestrian or vice versa in the month of June, July and August or Heat -

Gregorian to Equestrian

• • If in June, replace June with Heat and the date should be the same.
  • If in July, replace July with Heat and add 30 to the date.
  • If in August, replace August with Heat and add 31 to the date.

Equestrian to Gregorian

• • If the date is from 1 and 30 of Heat, replace Heat with June.
  • If the date is 31 to 61, subtract 30 from the date and replace Heat with July.
  • If the date is from 62 to 92, subtract 61 from the date and replace Heat with August.
