Chris has lived all his life in the Commonwealth of Virginia, leaving only to visit other parts of the United States for short periods of time. However, for various reasons he has lived in five different homes over the course of his life, in two different parts of the state. He has also spent time in three jails and a mental hospital, and he may currently be living in a group home.

Chris was born in a Charlottesville hospital and spent his early years in Ruckersville, a bumfuck town on the outskirts of Charlottesville which is mainly inhabited by people similar to the late Bob Chandler. During his middle and high school years (1993-2000), he lived in a less bumfuck suburban area 77 miles (125 km) away, just outside the city of Richmond in Chesterfield County. His family decided to return to Ruckersville after Chris finished high school in 2000.

In August 2021, Chris was jailed for incest at a facility in Orange County, Virginia, as Greene County (where Ruckersville is located) does not have a jail of its own. In February 2022 he was transferred to Western State Hospital in Staunton, Virginia to be made competent to stand trial. In May 2022 he was returned to the jail. In March 2023 he was released. His current whereabouts are unknown, although he has been spotted in Chesterfield County several times in May 2023, suggesting he may once again be living in that county.

Chris, begging for money, while standing in front of more than a thousand dollars' worth of Lego sets and toys.

The Financhu Crisis is a term coined by users from Kiwi Farms to describe the steep decline in the Chandler family's financial management beginning in early 2016. Signs of the Chandlers' worsening finances were made apparent by the increasing amounts of begging videos and donation requests on YouTube and Facebook.

In June 2017, Chris began to take his Patreon account more seriously and recommenced drawing Sonichu comic pages. He has gotten several hundred dollars per month for his efforts, and payments continued until 2 August 2021, when his Patreon account was shut down. As a result, begging had temporarily subsided.
