The CWCki Christmas Message

Dear CWCki users,
You want to know if I'll trade ten CWCki users for a hundred mainstream users, and I said, "I wouldn't trade ten CWCki users for a hundred thousand mainstream users; ten CWCki users are priceless."--Champthom 00:08, 26 December 2009 (CET)

  • Say what you will of me, I'll always have CWC family! RachmaninovDESU 02:40, 26 December 2009 (CET)

Links to HONEST content

Hey Christards, as a high-functioning-creative individual I thought maybe we could provide links to corresponding articles on the CWCkipedia so aspiring stalkers could get the down-low nigga-fresh from the horses mouth. This would also presumably raise the profile of the CWCkipedia for people who aren't aware of it. Maybe have links to articles on the CWCki from CWCkipedia? Although I'm not sure how much of the latter would infringe on the "Chris' own CWCkipedia" policy. I myself know nothing of writing HTML and can only access this site by repeatedly slamming my head against the keyboard, so one of you delightful individuals with 733T skillz will have to do it. Happy Hannuka! x OrgenNoon 02:23, 20 December 2009 (CET)

  • We already have a template to link to articles on CWCipedia - that's what this is for. Also, are you suggesting we post CWCki article links on CWCipedia? I'd say definitely no. --Champthom 02:32, 20 December 2009 (CET)

Descriptive image names, plz

If you're going to upload images, please try and give descriptive names. For instance, if you're uploading an image of Rosechu, please don't call it "Rosechu.png" or whatever. There's at least a few dozen images of Rosechu and "Rosechu.png" could refer to any one of them. It's a bitch if people are trying to find that one specific image of Rosechu. So instead, try and give it a descriptive title - maybe Rosechu12172009.png or RosechuAuthorNameHere.png or whatever. Point is, give it a descriptive title so people can find it and use it. A minor goal of the CWCki, particularly with the Fan Works index, is also to catalog fan works related to Chris, because people will be like "Anyone have that image of Sonichu fucking Chris in the ass while he's choking on pickles?" --Champthom 22:22, 17 December 2009 (CET)

Transcript color for Chris

Since color coded transcripts are the predominant trend and they're really handy, one complaint - Chris's color is blue, which is the same blue as wiki links. Any suggestions for a color that is easy to read, not black, yet would still easily show wiki links? Perhaps a darker shade of blue? Not sure if that would be any better. Dark purple, perhaps? I don't know, you people are clever and can probably think of something. --Champthom 07:42, 12 December 2009 (CET)

  • But now that I think about it, why not have black? I mean, actions and whatnot will be in italics, so why not just have regular black text for Chris? Thoughts? --Champthom 07:42, 12 December 2009 (CET)
  • Black is lame! Black is a narrator's color. Chris's text should be a color that we associate with him, like red/blue from his shirts, or yellow—preferably a magical shade of yellow (which is a mellow color, by the way) that wouldn't be hard to see—from Sonichu, or pink from his fear of homos. Though black from his hate for niggos is tempting... I must say I'd rather it weren't. --Tristran 08:01, 12 December 2009 (CET)
  • We could make it a darker blue, I guess. --Beat 08:12, 12 December 2009 (CET)

Screen cap project

Because we now have really neat infoboxes for videos, every video should have a screen cap. So yeah, one thing people can do is go through, get a screen cap from each video which really captures the essence of each video (there's plenty there, like the creepy stare pics, for instance) and start using the Infobox template. Hopefully they'll be on for biographical articles and one for Sonichu characters. --Champthom 13:42, 7 December 2009 (CET)

Video renaming policy, take 2 - IMPORTANT POLICY DISCUSSION DEALIE

Okay, there's a lot of talk about videos, mostly because people don't understand the rationale behind the current policy.http://cogsdev.110mb.com/cwcki/index.php/Main_Page

The current policy is this - generally, to name videos where Chris addresses a wide audience as "Captain's Log" (as opposed to videos where he says "This is to Clyde Cash..." or "This is to [insert sweetheart here]..."). The rationale is that Chris tends to name his videos dates which isn't very useful. In cases where it's not a Captain's Log but it's still a nonsensical title, generally people call it something like "Chris threatens Clyde again" or something that describes the action of the video.

This isn't the best system, as some people complain that it's only a Captain's Log when Chris says it is, while others say that a Captain's Log is a general theme. The problem is, this can be confusing - people generally don't consider IamSTRAIGHT as a captain's log sort of video.

Ideally, I think we should just call the videos what they were originally called (much like how The Beatles's 1968 album is "The Beatles" on Wikipedia and not "The White Album" as 99% of the population refers to it). The problem is, at least one occasion Chris released two videos with the same name (I believe it was 10252009) and that it's a bitch to find videos that way.

Clyde suggested using quotes, which is a more natural approach - people tend to think, at least in my experience, videos in terms of things Chris said like "the video where he says 'DYKES DYKES CHINA!'" But take a video like this. Should it be called "DYKES DYKES CHINA"? "YOU'RE DA HOMOS!"? "YOU'RE THE PEDOFORKS, YOU DORKS!"? They're all memorable quotes and many Chris videos have many memorable quotes that they can't be characterized by one. Conversely, some videos are quite forgettable.

Anyways, what I'm trying to get at is that we need get a conversation going about how to approach titling pages for videos. Obviously we need to make a note about what Chris officially calls the videos. Ultimately, we need a system that promotes usability and makes it easy for people to find videos.

So let's try and think of ways to approach this. --Champthom 23:21, 3 November 2009 (CET)

  • P.S. Here's the last time we talked about it for reference. --Champthom 23:24, 3 November 2009 (CET)
  • I've got a whole system set up in my head for how I'm going to fix all of this, but I feel like it would just take too long to explain, even though it's nothing radical. In short, I want to re-name all of the videos' page titles almost what Chris called them (or exactly what Chris called them... in the few instances where he was less retarded than normal). There will be exceptions, I'm sure, but that's the gist of my plan. If everybody on CWCki trusts me to do this thang, I'll do it all; I just need to know what all the videos' original titles are/were. (And if people end up displeased with anything I do, they can of course change some things back.) But I think I'm up for da challenge! Llort 23:34, 3 November 2009 (CET)
*My opinion. Always keep original title in article. Rename article if it's something gay like EVC 39568349 or 29859384. Something like IamSTRAIGHT or CWC's IMPORTANT MESSAGE should be kept for both. This should be the new rule because i'm awesome fuck you all Clydec 23:35, 3 November 2009 (CET)
  • Fear not. I do (and will) always keep the original title, bolded, in the lead sentence of a video's page. And I'm looking to keep article titles extremely close to original video titles in the vast majority of cases. Llort 23:53, 3 November 2009 (CET)
  • How about a system where the videos are given the name that Chris gave them, followed by a second title, or subtitle, separated by a dash or in parenthesis where it's given a more memorable title based on the content or a quote. That way it can be categorized easily but you won't have to settle for referring to the video by a series a numbers. sakanz 05:27, 6 December 2009 (CET)

This Day in Christory

i've added a new section to the front page that displays a message based on the day of the year. to add more stuff, read this and then make a page that follows this format:

  • Template:Christory/(Month in words) (Day in numbers, less than 10 padded with zeros)

for example:

  • Template:Christory/October 01
  • Template:Christory/November 23

i'd like it if someone could add a huge list of all the possible entries to the bottom of Template:Christory(within the noinclude tags, of course) so it's easier to tell which have been made already and which haven't --cogsdev/vedsgoc 01:51, 1 November 2009 (CET)

  • I created the list for November. So gais, whenever you have time, pleas scroll trough the CWChronology and start eliminating the blue links on the list. Oh, and if a certain date doesn't have anything happening on it, just leave it blank, and hope that Chris does something funny on it this year. :3 RachmaninovDESU 22:47, 1 November 2009 (CET)
    • Considering Cogsdev wants a huge list of all possible entries, is it OK for measly commoners such as myself to start adding some of the other months? i.e. December onwards. Xentrilus 00:28, 3 November 2009 (CET)
      • Oh sure I guess, it's a hell of a job, and any work we do on it now we won't have to do in the future. :3 RachmaninovDESU 01:43, 3 November 2009 (CET)
      • please do whatever days you like, there's no restrictions --cogsdev/vedsgoc 03:31, 3 November 2009 (CET)
        • Ah dammit, I screwed up the entry I made for November 1. Could someone rename it with the zero padding for me?

IRC Formatting

Has anyone got all the IRC chat logs in their original format? I want to write a script that will output them in a format like on this page. If there's a few different formats it doesn't matter, I just want the raw text files as they were before being uploaded and formatted. --Ed Kelly 05:21, 1 November 2009 (CET)

  • canine probably does, i'll direct him here --cogsdev/vedsgoc 05:32, 1 November 2009 (CET)

Titles of Videos should just be whatever Chris put down

unless he put down just a date or just ECV then we should either use the quotable line that most people will remember or...something this is getting too confusing for me. Clydec 00:06, 2 November 2009 (CET)

examples- 10252009 For Kacey should just be For Kacey [[For Chris II] should just be For Chris No 2

many of the captain's log that don't explicitly say CAPTAN'S ROG should really be retitled to something more descriptive. i know champ you want to use the Captain's ROGARU for every video he "addresses" to the fans, but who gives a shit. if chris gave a shit to say caputanaRU'S LOGARUUUUU then it must have been important enough for CHRIS so stuff. and stuff. AND STUFF AND STUF FCUCKSE YUSEIJYALRKAW YIHOJBNIUO^ $NYB(& Clydec 00:40, 2 November 2009 (CET)

  • I've held similar concerns for a while. Now that I have jerkop privileges, I'm trying to sort all of that stuff out as best I can. Giving articles for Chris's videos sensible titles is currently my top priority!
  • As for "For Kacey" in particular, you'll notice that Chris has essentially called two videos "For Kacey". One of them is 10252009 For Kacey, and the other is the earlier For Kacey from CWC. Thus, it'd be somewhat rash to re-title 10252009 For Kacey "For Kacey". Really, 10252009 For Kacey should be re-titled "For Kacey II", and the earlier For Kacey from CWC should be re-titled "For Kacey". In fact, I'll make those changes right now. :3
  • Keep in mind that re-directs from official titles are automatically being generated whenever I move a page, so nothing's being screwed up in that respect. And I keep the official titles, bolded, in the lead sentences of their respective pages. Everything should be A-okay. Llort 01:47, 2 November 2009 (CET)
  • Llort gives a shit. Or at least someone was very hardcore about this shit a few months ago and I'm like "fine dude, so be it." Also, people had their say when we discussed this a few months ago. But using a memorable line may be a good idea, similar to "THAT IS MY HOUSE" though people have different ideas of "memorable" lines. --Champthom 01:49, 2 November 2009 (CET)
  • That "For Kacey from CWC" video should remain what it is, as it's different from "For Kacey" and maybe make a note about it on each page, to clarify it for people. --Champthom 01:52, 2 November 2009 (CET)
  • Well, I was re-naming the second "For Kacey" as "For Kacey II" to clear up the confusion. I'd like "For Kacey from CWC" to remain simply "For Kacey" for that reason, but I don't think it wise to revert your reversion of my move unless you give me a thumbs-up to that effect! Llort 01:56, 2 November 2009 (CET)
  • But they're different. One is "For Kacey", another one is "For Kacey from CWC." Two different things. One has "from CWC" to it. No less confusing than adding "For Kacey II." Also, in the event Chris makes another video with the same name, maybe make it "Video title (date)" with date for each video. --Champthom 02:33, 2 November 2009 (CET)

Okay I change my mind. If Chris does a stupid nondescript title like 09205398 or Update September 2008 or some bullshit, change it, make note of the original title but yeah. Clydec 20:06, 3 November 2009 (CET)

Original Video Titles

Does anyone have a comprehensive list of the original titles that Chris has used for all of his YouTube videos? If not, does anyone have a way to at least find out those titles, especially for Chris's oldest videos and his newer ones that've been taken down? I'm trying to fix up a bunch of page titles, but I'll need that info where it's no longer readily available. Any help would be much appreciated! Llort 00:04, 3 November 2009 (CET)

  • no www.youtube.com/cchan6789 for a few of them. most of them are gone though :( Clydec 19:54, 3 November 2009 (CET)
  • That sucks. I've been working through the CChan6789 videos slowly but surely; it's too bad to hear that most of the titles for videos even earlier than those are likely lost forever. :( Llort 22:28, 3 November 2009 (CET)
  • Try some of the other CWC video archive channels on YouTube. They tend to use the original titles whereas Arjen and TheCWCvilleLibrary opted for clever titles (like "The Realization"). --Champthom 22:58, 3 November 2009 (CET)

  • Thanks, Clyde. I'm with you now that the "Captain's Log" titles need to go. I'll take these suggestions of yours into consideration when I get around to actually making said name changes, but I won't start that process until I've done a bit more digging into the original titles. While I figured that you would be my best bet, a partial list could still turn up from some unlikely place! Llort 23:06, 3 November 2009 (CET)
    • to clarify, these titles are the OFFICIAL AND ORIGINIAL titles. granted, I don't think it's a huge loss if we can't recover all of them. the descriptions on the few are nice though Clydec 23:07, 3 November 2009 (CET)
      • Yeah, I gotcha, Clyde. I'd left my browser open for a while, and I was responding to your original list of suggested titles. You've quickly rendered my above post largely irrelevant, and I thank you for that. You were my best bet after all. :) Llort 23:11, 3 November 2009 (CET)

Find these

NOTE: While people are looking for the original titles for these videos, they should keep an eye out for the original descriptions, too. It's not necessary to get both, but we might as well not conduct the exact same search twice over. Llort 14:30, 4 November 2009 (CET)

  • Current search DONE. Alright now what. Clydec 06:42, 6 November 2009 (CET)
  • Now that all of the Captain's Logs have been found, it'd be a good idea to check over the titles of all of the other videos that aren't Captain's Logs. I'm pretty sure CWCki has been ignoring the official and originial titles and descriptions for many of those, too. :/ Llort 21:46, 7 November 2009 (CET)
  • Oh, SNAP! Whoreos n' Milf just came through with his personal list of official and originial titles, which he posted here. Descriptions aren't included and it's not made clear which CWCki title corresonds to each of these, but this remains some hot shit. All are welcome to clarify and/or improve the list in any way. Llort 23:51, 7 November 2009 (CET)
  • I don't think some of those are accurate. Clydec 00:26, 8 November 2009 (CET)
  • That's quite possible, anything prior to CChan6789 came from the rar archive posted on the ED talk page. I don't know if whoever downloaded them kept the original names with the files. Also, feel free to add to/fix the list I posted. If you need help matching pages to videos, just leave me note and I can compare transcriptions for the ones in question to the video files. --Whoreos n' Milf 03:18, 19 November 2009 (CET)
  • By all means, work the magic that you worked in locating the Captain's Logs, and let the truth prevail! Llort 00:51, 8 November 2009 (CET)
  • Basically, embed the original URL and you can obtain the titles from them. Give me another list and i'll do my best Clydec 02:59, 8 November 2009 (CET)
  • I suppose my advice would be to go to the List of videos and see what you can find for any non-Captain's Log video that came out prior to October 2009. Llort 03:03, 8 November 2009 (CET)

Use of "Ian" in stead of "Chris"

Hey gais, it's me again... I see that in some articles in the CWCki, people have been referring to Chris as Ian, or with things like "the impostor" or "the fake Chris", and people have also sometimes been referring to Liquid as "the true and original Chris" and similar stuff, now, although I find Liquid a funny man, and his trolling of high quality, I'm not sure if we should take the whole liquid vs. solid battle to the CWCki in this way. It's funny if you call Chris Ian in his face (say, on youtube or via e-mail), because it ticks him off, but if you do it here, on a wiki that isn't even read by Chris, you're just being forced and unfunny. We all know Chris is Chris, and I'm quite sure calling him Ian isn't going to get any laughs from anyone. Also, it's quite confusing, and it's a bit arbitrary in which articles Chris is referred to as Ian, and in which he isn't. I'd like to make it CWCki policy to just refer to Solid as Chris or Solid and to Liquid as CChanSonichuCWC or Liquid in all objective articles.
So, I wan't to hear your opinions on this matter. Do you think this would be a worthwile change, or am I being an lulzkilling old man. RachmaninovDESU 23:53, 4 November 2009 (CET)

  • basically, the cwcki is for fun. if people can understand the different, it shouldn't be a big deal. if people are actually getting confused, then we should make changes Clydec 23:55, 4 November 2009 (CET)
    • I've been thinking the same thing as Rachmaninov for a while, and I just couldn't be bothered to type all of that same stuff out. I'd be pleased with that kind of set policy. Chris = Chris. 'Nuff said. Llort 00:08, 5 November 2009 (CET)
  • It's a joke and CWCki is in on it. But really, I think "Ian" should only be used in articles where there's discussion about Chris and Liquid Chris, like where Chris is calling out Liquid. Otherwise, we should stick to Chris. --Champthom 12:16, 5 November 2009 (CET)
    • Yeah. --Sonijew 13:17, 5 November 2009 (CET)
    • I tend to agree with this as well. A big part of the (first) Liquid saga, revolved around accusing Chris of stealing [his own] identity [from someone else] and harassing him about it. It makes sense to refer to "Ian" in articles where "Liquid" is heavily involved. --Whoreos n' Milf 20:05, 22 November 2009 (CET)
  • I know that in one chatlog liquid is referred to as CWC, and chris as Ian. I found this a bit confusing (especially because they have the same number of characters). Pikanic2 16:18, 5 November 2009 (CET)
    • It was a phone call transcript. CWC and IBA. --Sonijew 17:12, 5 November 2009 (CET)
      • Right, sorry. Well, my point remains. Pikanic2 17:22, 5 November 2009 (CET)
  • i'd really prefer it if Chris was Chris, and Liquid was Liquid. i know it's a joke, but the CWCki is supposed to document the facts and allow people who don't already know to find out. if you come to the CWCki with no prior knowledge of Chris-chan, this IBA stuff is going to be pretty fucking confusing. i don't know about the rest of you, but when i see CWC, i think of Chris-chan, not of Liquid AKA CChanSonichuCWC. i agree with RachmaninovDESU's policy proposal, so if Champthom and Clydec agree, please go ahead and make the relevant changes. --cogsdev/vedsgoc 10:54, 7 November 2009 (CET)
  • Seconding Chris/Liquid. How much humor are we really adding by referring to Chris as Ian ad nauseum, anyway? When it's called for, I think the occasional reference to Chris as Ian is fine as long as it's done so that "Ian" links to Chris' page. But again, a whole page talking about Ian isn't lulzy enough to warrant the confusion it could potentially cause visitors. I do think, though, that the exception should be Liquid's article, which should refer to Chris exclusively as Ian, and to Liquid exclusively as Chris. Nobody's going to think that page is about Solid Chris. Bunsteaks 08:18, 12 November 2009 (CET)

Succession boxes for videos

Is there anyone around with enough wiki skillz to make the necessary templates for "succession boxes" (like Wikipedia has at the bottom of pages for political officeholders)? These would be really helpful to install at the bottom of every video page here, so that users could browse Chris's videos in chronological order from start to finish. It's all about context, baby. Llort 23:14, 5 November 2009 (CET)

  • I've been wanted these as well. Anyone who can do this gets a Gold Star bounty. --Champthom 02:54, 7 November 2009 (CET)
