Metal Gear
Being that Metal Gear Solid is so cash, and most of the trolls emerged from the depths of /v/ (Where wanking to Big Boss is mandatory), several MGS references have emerged. Even Chris has made some possibly unintentional nods to the franchise. Vivian has also proclaimed her love for Liquid Snake.
Allusions made by trolls
- The Miscreants are an obvious parody of The Patriots; except that The Patriots aim to troll the world, while the Miscreants specialize in autistic manchildren.
- 'La-li-lu-le-lo' was the same password EVA was supposed to give Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 3. If anyone ever asks you "Who are the Patriots?" and you reply with anything else, you'll probably end up being smashed on the head with a PSTriple.
- The Miscreants codenames all go along the lines of, 'The (x)'. This is another nod to MGS3, where one must face The Pain, The Fear, The End, and The Fury.
- Jason Kendrick Howell goes by the e-handle 'Liquid Snake'.
- Some of Clyde's messages to Chris contain footage from the series.
Allusions made by Chris
As Chris has never played MGS bought MGS but just barely got past the first two guards, he has managed to make blatant references to the game:
- Gecko and Mantis are shown as chefs in CWC's "It's All Coming Back To Me". While physically deformed mutants, their names are reference to the troll Gecko Mantis, who got his name from the elite bio-mechanical robot originating from MGS4, and Psycho Mantis, a psychic soldier appearing in MGS1 and briefly in MGS4.
- Jason Kendrick Howell was portrayed similar to Big Boss, with brown hair, a headband and an eye patch. For a while, it was assumed that Chris browsed /v/ for three seconds, saw a Big Boss picture and decided it was close enough, despite Big Boss and Liquid Snake (Jason's e-alias) being radically different characters. Later, Jason revealed that he sent a picture of himself to Chris with an eye patch on; which makes a bit more sense, as Chris can't go anywhere near as smoky and drinky as /v/.
- Wild sneaks into the 4-cent garbage.com company headquarters, which is apparently full of empty red corridors. Chris may be making a subtle joke at Metal Gear Solid's typical bland military bases. Or, far more likely, he is too stressed to include enemies, or details.
Notes
It should be pointed out that most of the trolls reference Metal Gear Solid 3, for the Playstation 2. It wouldn't be too outrageous to think this is because most trolls aren't on government welfare and can't cough up the hundreds of dollars for a PS3. This is one of those rare cases where God/Jesus decided to counter-troll.
Also of note, Metal Gear Solid 4 is not listed as one of the best PS3 games, according to Chris, who has also claims that he has never played an MGS game.
