Christian's stress sigh is a common occurrence in videos containing rage, sadness, long explanations, or all of the above. It doesn't happen when he is content, but suddenly becomes his new form of punctuation when he is stressed about something. It does not necessarily have to be a sigh, it can also be a deep breath. He does this in videos and when typing as well. It seems to be both a coping mechanism, so he can collect his thoughts before speaking again, and an attempt to gain sympathy from whomever he is emailing or whoever is watching his videos. He has also done it when he doesn't feel like explaining something or is annoyed with what you are telling him. It's also a critical point to note that he also TYPES OUT his sighs when chatting online.
The stress sigh is known to wear on the nerves of viewers, and has gained quite a bit of contempt from his fanbase.
The term itself may have its origins in PVCC. Chris just calls it a "sigh" whenever he does refer to it, such as on the My Little Pony card to the right and during his song Hard Love Quest, but for the most part he seems unaware that he does it.
According to CWCki asspies, there is an average of 0.42 stress sighs per video as of 12 December 2009, not counting the Official Videobooks.
Sightings
Unsurprisingly, Song of Christian contains a lot of stress sighs, mostly when he talks about sad things like his period of muteness and when he stutters and needs to pause before continuing. He also does it after his lengthy tard rage-induced rant about his elementary school and bad grade.
Even at his earliest YouTube video he takes deep breaths often. The recent trauma of discovering the article about him on Encyclopedia Dramatica has not taken much of a visible toll on him, but he performs the stress sigh several times throughout, indicating how he feels though he does not show it on his face thanks to his lovely dead fish expression.
Throughout a lengthy correspondence between Megan and Chris in 2007, the sigh appears many times. Almost all of these happened when Megan told him things he didn't like, such as "I'm not interested in you", "please stop touching me", and "I wouldn't want to go with you to Seattle even if you did win the PaRappa contest".
In Vivian's chat with Chris, he sighed several times because Vivi was attempting to beat some sense into him. There is a total of five sighs, almost all of them indicating he doesn't want to change himself and that he is stressed and frustrated and also a virgin.
During his date with Emily he does this several times during their encounter with the man in the pickle suit.
Chris's phone conversations with Kacey's father and later Kacey and Liquid Chris are riddled with dozens of sighs, as are the Alec Benson Leary phone calls.
Numerous sighs also take place during CWC is Sad concerning the marriage of Kacey and Liquid.
The anti-sigh
Chris makes a comparable noise when he feels as if he's scored a point against his enemies or come up with something clever. This short, chirpy "hmph" isn't nearly as common as the stress sigh, but it still appears in a few of his videos - at the beginning of his attempt to brainwash his followers into hating Asperchu, for instance, and during the proud revelation of his copyright certificate.
