Outside of fiction, a real-life "redemption arc" involves a deliberate, continuous shift from destructive, immoral actions toward personal growth.
Chris, infamous for being all talk and no bite, will, from time to time, claim that he has learned his lesson, make promises that he will never repeat the actions again, and state that he should not face the consequences of his actions because of it.
