A gal pal is a friend who is not a true and honest sweetheart. Chris claims to have had a lot of these in high school. He has also claimed that Megan said she loved him, so we know his grip on reality isn't very strong.
In typical Chris style, he has managed to drive every single gal-pal away. Chris believes that due to all his "Gal Pals" he had his pick of the girls to make his sweetheart and that he missed out on the opportunities during high school, oblivious that these girls probably associated with him due to pity rather than desiring a real friendship with Chris.
