Wendy's (or "Wendys", according to Chris) is an American fast food chain that employed Chris briefly until he got fired. Chris's job primarily consisted of custodial duties instead of preparing food. Chris has contradicted himself about when he worked there; he claimed in his resume that he worked there from August to October 2001, but he told Kacey's father that he had already been fired before September 11, 2001. All told, Chris likely worked at Wendy's for a month and a half, working about 20-30 hours a week at what was likely a minimum wage pay.

Chris the employee

Chris's own accounts of his employment paint him as a stubborn and difficult employee. In 2009, Chris was asked about his time at Wendy's several times after the date with Emily. Chris believed his supervisor didn't think very highly of him for reasons upon which we can only speculate. He mentioned a time involving him getting his uniform dirty and simply continuing to wear it, not taking into account the usual sanitation standards of most fast food restaurants and also not realizing he could get another, clean shirt from the supply room.

In a conversation with Kacey's father, Chris mentioned "emotional differences" as the reason for his termination, and claimed that the manager had a "spike on his shoulder" against him. At this time it is unknown what these differences were, although they were almost certainly minor differences of opinion over punctuality and performing the job duties for which he was hired.

Why Was Chris Fired?

The mysterious circumstances of his firing have never been revealed, as Chris has never given a clear or concise answer on the cause of his dismissal from Wendy's. It's been alleged the last straw was when Chris scared a small child in the restaurant. Unconfirmed stories claim this took place when he tried to cut open a baked potato for the kid. Other stories say Chris scared the same small kid while doing his Donald Duck impersonation. In Mumble,[citation needed] Chris has claimed it was because he was trying to get napkins for the child. On his date from 19 March 2009, when asked if his Donald Duck impersonation had scared the child (it sounds like something out of The Exorcist), he said that the child was "tired" at the time.[1]

The most likely explanation for what happened at Wendy's is that Chris made many small but frequent mistakes and likely aggravated his coworkers and managers with his attitude. His supervisor likely became tired of the difficulty in dealing with Chris's inappropriate behavior, and he used the child incident (whatever it was) to finally fire Chris. Notably, Chris wasn't notified in advance of his firing and came to work only to be told by his former co-workers that he wasn't supposed to be there.

At Wendy's, Chris received the only money he has ever actually earned in his life — a sum likely consisting of about $500.
